The Omnivores DelemaIn humanities, the class had to read The omnivores Dilemma by Michael Pollen It explained the importance of eating freshly grown organic foods. We learned about the deception of the large food companies and the amount of things that you don't know that are in your food. I was astonished to learn that about fifty percent of the processed food is made with corn. Corn is so heavily subsidized by the US government and now because of that, it is extremely cheep. The more that the government is becoming more and more in dept. the book also explained the growth of no hassle dinners, the type that takes minimal effort to make while costing a small amount. It started in the 1950's when TV dinners started to be advertised and the fast food industry started to grow. eventually the drive trough was implemented into the system for even faster service and less effort. One of the slogans for the faster way for making food were, mothers can now relax because they don't have to deal with any any time staking cooking. This was a big problem because some people lost touch with cooking and now don't know how to make a healthy meal.
