Some of the colleges my class and I visited really met my needs and wants... and some didn't. I felt strongest colleges for me were UCSB and Cal Poly SLO. I liked UCSB because it seemed really independent and free, yet there were still many things to keep you involved. It also seemed to have a strong chemistry program, my main focus for college. Similarly I enjoyed Cal Poly SLO, but I felt like it went a step further. The student count was lower and the location beautiful. But what really makes it better for me was the learning differences. Instead of waiting until your final years of college to work on your actual major, it is one of the first subjects that you study. this gives you the option to test out your major and see if it is really something you want to do later in life. If the major isn't to your liking, it is possible to change without having to work through years, just to realize it isn't something you don't want to do. Something that also is like a welcome home is a form of project based learning taught in the school. This is something I would want to use for college, because it might be a better experience than memorizing textbooks and testing, although there will probably still be some of that. In my experience the worst stop in the trip was UC Merced. I'm not sure if it was because of my terrible experiences with grass allergies during the day or because the school didn't fit my expectations, but I had a awful time. I felt like many of the things advertised were less advanced, or no better than any of the other colleges I had seen. Another thing that was a definite deal breaker for me was the atmosphere. It looked as if it was a ghost town, with very few people in the dorms and main hallways. it wasn't somewhere i would want to spend 4 years.
I think my college view hasn't changed, although I am looking forward to it a lot more. This trip has made me much more exited to be able to converse and work with room and class mates. The experience of being away from home, being more self reliant, and having to drive long distances didn't make an impact on me at all, because I am used to some of these altercations.
Something I am really looking forward to in college is meeting people from all around the U.S. and maybe from other places in the world. Something that really makes me exited would be finding new friends and working on projects and assignments with them. Of corse I am looking forward to college parties and organizations with many different people, but I want to make sure I have stable grades and schedule before that.
Something that concerns me the most about college is the math content I will have to learn. I want to be able to reach my major without having to take more classes and spend an extra semester there. I'm not sure if I am learning a healthy amount at my school and want be able to have the security to get through college. To counteract this some steps I will be taking a Palomar college mat class and study the SAT practice book. this way I will be able to prepare myself and solidify a better score for the SAT.
Traveling abroad is definitely an option for me, but I would definitely only do it within my last two years of college. Somewhere I would want to study would be Croatia or Italy. I have family in Croatia and Italy isn't far from them. I'm not sure what clubs I would want to join, but I think something that would interest my would be some obscure science club. Enrolling into a college that is instate would be my priority because of cost, but if I get a great deal of money in scholarships from an out of state college.my main focus for college is to get e chemistry degree, although for what, I'm not sure. From what I have seen in this college trip I have much to look forward to in the next couple of years. Hopefully, I enroll in a college that meets all of my needs and I get accepted.
