In the portraits of courage project my class and I learned about the many ways that courage is shown. In the book To Kill a Mocking bird I discovered that courage is doing the right thing. It is not the absence of fear but the being able to keep pushing forwards despite the fear. Atticus Finch, a main character in the book, saves a man from not having a fair trial. If Atticus hadn't stepped in to take the trial the man would have been convicted immediately, but now he has a chance. He did it because he knew it was the right thing. I interviewed a first grader about what he thought courage was. At first he didn't understand the word but after explanation he thought it was doing things without being scared. He thought that since his favorite super hero could do it he could as well. I inter viewed many people and they all gave me around the same answer, that they were scared, but they didn't care.
