Reflection
For this project, the country I chose was Croatia, because my mother was born and lived there. Something I learned that was really interesting was how many successful inventors there were in the 1800s to 1930s. I will go into deeper explanation on some of the inventions but an example of some were the ballpoint pen, parachute, tie, and tungsten light bulb. I found these facts in European tourism websites advertising Croatia. Another interesting thing I learned about Croatia was that until the 1980's it was governed by many separate governments, like the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, and Yugoslavia.
The item I decided to recreate was a model of the first steerable metal framed airship. I made this because I felt like it was really influential to the world and it would be fun to make. It was an invention made by a Croatian man named David Schwartz who later died, leading to his ideas to be adopted by Ferdinand Zeppelin. I created two different structures for the airship, the first out of popsicle sticks. This was my first draft and ended up as an octagon structure with a poorly created cone at the end. my second draft was far better, because I laser cut few circles that when spaced out created a cylinder. I surrounded the cylinder with wire mesh to hold them together. Then we created a paper cone to add to the front. To finalize the outside we put a thin duct tape layer to cover the interior. I strung up the cart at the bottom to finalize the airship. I liked how my airship turned out, but I wish we had more time. I feel like I was rushed at the end because of this my product was easily damaged during exhibition. even though this was a problem during the end, this was a generally successful product.
From what I saw at exhibition I think I would be interested in learning more about England. The England booth that displayed little fighter planes caught my attention and I wish I was able to learn more about the history of the displays. My father is from England and I think it would be beneficial to learn more about its past and innovations that effected the world today.

I feel proud of my booth and the participation I put into the work on the booth because i felt like I worked alone on many aspects. The airship design was mostly all my ideas and construction. I sometimes had trouble getting my group members to help me, because some of them were working on more individual things. However I was able to create a product that I envisioned, with help.
I think my exhibition went pretty well considering the amount of time we had. I think my favorite part of this exhibition was articulating my information that I gathered to the people listening to me presenting. I felt like every time a new group showed up I would have a new way of showing my work and important information. the only sad part was that all of our tickets and tokens were taken by other people so we had no way to show how good we did. |
