I found this project informative, because of all of the history subjects we covered. I find North American History interesting, especially when it has to do with native history, so I was quite exited when we started this new chapter. Although I could have challenged myself by doing extensive research on my own, I don't feel like I was challenged. We did have large workloads that took time, and I had trouble completing them on the due date, I just found it to be busy work. I didn't have to put any extensive thought into any of the things worked on, which I kind of liked, because I didn't have to do any soul searching, or reflect my thoughts onto paper. I just came up with Ideas If I was writing, or thought creatively.
I think my favorite parts of this project were writing the creative stories about native culture and Day of the Dead. I had the freedom to be as creative as I wanted. I found the entries form the Aztec spy journal to be a very interesting way to implement our made up stories with all of the knowledge we learned in class. we were able to write the stories we were interested in writing, while still being educational. The Day of the Dead vocab was fun because I was able to write a story about something I wouldn't usually focus on. My story was about a young boy and his imaginary friend who was a Mexican wrestler. There were so many day of the dead aspects that became a part of my story, and I was proud of my final product.
I didn't get any feedback on any of my academic related work, but I would love to so I could make my final product better. I think it can be the last touch to help me make my work a final product, although none of my teachers or classmates think I need critique. I only received feedback on my length and contents of my artists statement which I quickly fixed.
I think I deserve an A because I was an attentive student during class and a hard worker weather or not in class. I completed and turned in, if needed, class work and and project work to the best of my skill. I think I was the most interested in this project than any other we had gone over so far in this year.
One thing I would change about the project would be the exhibitions. I felt like they weren't as interactive as most exhibitions.
Artest Statement - Biggie Smalls
This ofrenda is honoring Biggie Smalls, a rapper who helped lead one of the great movements of his time. Born May 21, 1972 and died March 9, 1997. Brought up in Brooklyn, he became a cultural figure in the East Coast Hip-Hop scene, after releasing his debut album, ready to die. Although I may not have known him personally, He became a part of my life when listening to his music. The dice in the ofrenda represent the type of lifestyle he lived; the choices similar to a roll of dice. The jewels represent the wealth that he accumulated. The burger represents his hunger for success.
